Hi, I’ve noticed this just today, but Avast! lags the system and freezes it periodically, while downloading multiple files from Shareaza. The current general setting is set to standard, and I’ve noticed a basic freeze up every 5 min. or so, but the computer lags in general.
Are you sure its because of avast! ? And from which network are you downloading in Shareaza (BitTorrent maybe?)?
Although Shareaza claims to have no spy-/adware, it still creates SaveNow entries in the registry. Suspicous
Is WinMX any better?
Claims not to be bundled with spyware etc…
(I don’t/won’t use these programs, but a relative of mine does–and ends up most of the time getting viruses, spyware etc)
I do not believe Shareaza has any spyware.
I know it’s Avast!, or atleast I think it’s Avast!, because after each and everyone of thse lock ups the Avast! ball is spinning repeatedly. Once I turned monitoring of Shareaza off, the lag spikes stopped.
I was downloading from BitTorrent and Edonkey.
Eddy: I have no SaveNow registry entries.
If you haven’t already, it’s a good idea to run some anti-spyware programs to double check that your computer is clean.
Try Adaware (Free for personal use):
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
and/or
Spybot Search & Destroy (Free for home use)
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
And make sure to update it with the latest definitions etc.
Yes, I regularly use both programs. Thank you for the suggestion though.
Eddy: I have no SaveNow registry entries.Likely because Ad-Aware (or one of the others) removed them.
Staind,
I’ve checked Shareaza and it works fine with Avast.
If you keep experiencing this behaviour, as alternitive you can disable the provider or disable Shareaza checking and let the on-access scanner deal with the files you have downloaded. (scanning them on opening)
