Everytime I select “local disks” as the scan area in Avast Home 4.8, the program sticks a grey rectangle “local disks” on the screen.
Can’t get rid of it until I turn off the computer and then start up again. Using XP.

How much RAM do you have?
A Dell Dimension with 256 RAM. This is a only a recent occurrence.
I would add another 256MB RAM as 256MB RAM is way too small to run XP then expect it to run any application smoothly at all.
Go to Crucial.com and let it scan your system for recommended RAM upgrades:

RAM is the the best investment you can buy.
Very good suggestion to upgrade RAM… although I would be happy if the tool detect how much RAM you should add. There is a limit in comparison with the processor. Sometimes, what you need is a better processor and not just add RAM.
The tool can’t possibly scan your system for applications installed, loaded , etc. and workout how much RAM you need.
Its sole purpose is to identify your motherboard and ensure the RAM they suggest will be compatible.
