avast! Licensing Alert

We purchased 25 licenses of Avast! 4 Professional Edition, 3 years. We still have 5 months left of our 3 years and today all of the workstations starting getting a pop-up.

Security upgrade for your avast! antivirus is available. Replace your avast! 4.8 with Avast! Internet Security 6.

This pops up about once an hour. How do I get rid of this pop-up.

No one knows a way, or if they do, they have not posted it here on the forum. This is part of what will likely be an increased campaign to get people off of 4.8. Supporting 4.8 is costing them time and money, and they probably want to get as many people upgraded as possible before they pull the plug on 4.8’s definition updates.

Any particular reason you are against upgrading?

+1
As I know you can use your license for the remaining time with Avast Pro 6 and maybe with Avast Internet security 6

We have field Engineers using laptops that are all over the US and they are the type of guys that know field constructions but don’t like to mess with anything on the computer but their specific programs. I know it’s very easy to upgrade but they would want me to remote in and do the upgrade for them which would be very time consuming.

To me this is BS; they sold me a product which they should support for the term of the contract without pop-up ads trying to get me to purchase something else. If Avast doesn’t want to support a product for 3 years they shouldn’t sell 3 year licenses.

When you bought the license for 3 years you have bought the service.
This means that you can get definition updates and program.
Now, I understand you are angry, because you need to upgrade your computer manually, but considering that all other AV programs produce a new version every year!

Remember that version 4.8 is the past instead version 6 is the future

You might not be aware, but all existing 4.8 licenses can be upgraded at no cost (well, it will cost you time, but no money).

You do that here>>http://www.avast.com/resend-license.php

I have a situation that seems to be unsupported: ~30 PCs in workgroup configuration, with no need for a domain (and no wish to spend money on Windows server).

As I understand, new Business Protection requires domain.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Btw, I have not started testing BP yet because my licenses for 4.8 expire in May 2012, so it seemed to me like plenty of time …

Hello,

BP works excellent in Workgroup environment.
