Avast Links Not Working

Just installed Avast! 4 Home and thinks it’s great! The only problem I’m having is that many of the links back to Avast do not work. It’s is primarily the one’s like the “Get more skins…” link on the skin chooser. I guess you’d call them embedded links, rather than “text” links?? When I click them, I get an alert box from Windows stating that “The specified file was not found”.

Any ideas?

The link in avast! points to:
http://www.avast.com/i_kat_71.html
but my browser redirects me to this address:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download/skins/index.html
Maybe your browser doesn’t support redirection? ???

Anyway all the links in avast work for me.

What browser are you using pkirill?

Firefox 0.9.2 is my default, and I still have IE installed. If I go to the Avast! News and select a link from any of the articles that open on the right-hand side, it opens in IE. Otherwise, links in email etc, open in Firefox.

Helpful?

I appreciate the fast response! Thanks!

hmm, does it get as far as saying “redirection” in the top left hand corner?

If not try setting your default browser to IE, then try the link again.

I use Mozilla 1.7.1 and it redirects me to the new page ::slight_smile:

Tried the links in FireFox, Netscape, IE and Opera and all work fine here.

I use GreenBrowser and also get a redirect but then it takes me here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download/skins/index.html
Must be your browser.

Couldn’t resist trying myself – the “kat” link redirects me just fine too, with IE-6.

pkirill, what happens if you click Start, select Run…, type in

http://www.avast.com/i_kat_71.html

and hit Enter? Does it open the skins page? In which browser?

Thanks
Vlk

When I type that in a Run box, I get the messagebox shown in the attached. Go figure - could this be my machine? I’m running XP Pro…

This is what I get if I open Avast, goto Help > About and click the www.avast.com link there. Thanks again for any help - it reall is appreciated!

It looks like your avast installation is corrupt. Uninstall avast! completely. If add/remove doesn’t work well for you, download
this tool from avast! WEB site: http://www.avast.com/eng/download/programs/avast_uninstall_util.html

Of course, follow instructions on that page.

After that, restart your computer and install your copy of avast! from the scratch… I can’t think of any better solution, especially
'cause I see that you don’t have one of those files from avast! folder. Most likely, that’s not the only file that you’re missing…

Just do as I suggested, and let us know how things are going…

Cheers !

Sasha,
I think it’s either his browser or the file types are not properly assigned.
I don’t think it has anything to do with avast at all.
I just typed the exact thing in the run command and it opened up the avast site. That’s the operating system not Avast!

Did you see Bob, some file is missing from his avast! directory… There is screen shot up there… Obviously, he has uncomplete installation…

…or… …or… he just needs to reassociate HTML file handling to his default browser…

OK pkirill, try doing this…

I think everything is clear on pictures, you have some comments on the picture, so you can follow those…

No Sasha, He has problems clicking on a URL and then getting to the website.
Either the browser he’s using is at fault or like you said the file association is messed up.

And the ‘prize’ goes to S.Z. Craftec! It was a Windows problem. I recently uninstalled MyIE2 in favor of FireFox and MyIE2 did not want to give up control. It was still listed as the program of record for the item you listed. I had manually changed it for HTM and HTML. Once I made the change as you suggested, all was well. So a HUGE THANK YOU for your help with this!!

No problem, that’s why we are here… I’ve been there, done that. I had exactly the same problem when I uninstalled MyIE2.

Cheers !
