I apologize if this has been covered somewhere else in these forums. I am using the latest Home version of Avast and I have noticed that often upon booting up or rebooting, my XP computer seems to lock up just before the Avast icon loads in the taskbar. The hourglass keeps 'a spinning, but nothing else happens. I have to reboot once or twice more, and then magically the Avast icon appears and all is well. I am NOT running any other antivirus programs which might interfere with the boot-up. And it doesn’t happen all the time. Last night I booted up…Avast would not load…had to reboot twice and then finally the happy blue globe appeared. Downloaded the latest MS updates…rebooted…and everything came back up fine. Come to think of it, I believe this happens more often with a cold boot than a reboot. Any thoughts?
- Do you use a firewall? Which one?
- Did you have any other antivirus in the past?
- Any other security programs that could interfere?
- In XP/Vista, is there any useful information into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Events, specially ‘Errors’?
I will take a look. Thanks
Happened again this morning. This seems to be the only error that shows up. Doesn’t mean anything to me…but probably to the more computer literate…??
The server {FFF2D28F-E4EE-44D9-8104-8E71556757F6} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.
After I rebooted, everything loaded fine.
