after making the registry change suggested and rebooting all 5 scanners were on. now i have the following problems:
p1…if i reboot some times 1 or 2 icons are not in system tray. use logout/login and they show up. aways either or both epson cx5200 printer all in one software or ms intellimouse software.
p2. with the scanners on programs like winrescuexp or powerdesk 5 zip function will not complete. even copy to some other disk to overwrite a file says in use by another program… close avast all scanners and they work normally. used right click on icon in system tray and on-access protection i terminated all but internet and all works. p2p, instant msg, outlook/exchange i do not use so no problem. but std scanner…how to make work so can use normal every day programs?
What does it mean “the zip function doesn’t complete”? How does this zip function work?
Which is your OS?
What version of avast! do you have installed?
Do you have any other antivirus application installed right now in your system?
Any error window or pop up appeared when setup failed?
What language of avast! are you using? Just English?
Has your version of avast! ever updated before?
Please, click on the ‘a’ icon (blue ball) in the system tray… Go to About dialog and see your version/build and update information. This way we can figure out if their is an issue with your version of avast!.
And also, do you use any proxy filter, firewall or any spyware block application?

win xp pro sp-1 os, english only. ver 4.1.319[ d/l installed], tool ver 1.9.40, skin 4.2.7.3. no proxy[default set], no error msg., firewall kerio 4.x, there is avg6 and fix-it[trend virus included] both set for only manual scan. no msconfig listings. zip[in powerdesk 5 if you extract a file xxxx.zip it uses pkzip however with std shield set on[default settings] it will not unzip file.]
Kerio 4.x.xx has many bugs
I’m pretty sure this has nothing to do with Kerio, because I don’t use it (and I don’t use any other firewall).
But I have the very same problems. Somehow it appears to me that from time to time avast locks files and forgets to unlock them. Symptoms: I cannot delete a file (because XPPro insists the file is being in use) or I cannot delete a Zip folder just after having unzipped it’s contents. However, stopping avast resident scanner in such a situation and the deleting the file always works.
MacLover is right, Kerio 4.x has a lot of bugs. I do not reccomend.
I see no reason to keep both avast! and avg6 (free) (2 av at the same computer always mess everything).
I do not see any reason for the error on winzip or better, I think it is not related to avast!. Maybe the download or some other trouble.
??? Went to backup my registry using WinRescueXP, which I have been using forever, and Avast says that I should run it in Sandbox. When I tried, the program would not back up the required files. This program by SUPERWIN SOFTWARE is used by thousands of users. I have been running with Avast and have not had a problem until today. Please address this as I am sure you are going to get posts on this. Thanks…

Anyway, don’t run it in the sandbox next time, and you shouldn’t have a problem.
