Avast made my Windows Media Player not work...

::slight_smile:

I just installed avast! Home and now my Windows Media Player dosen’t work. Any clues?

Please provide more information like:

  • What OS?
  • What exact version of Avast?
  • What happens if you try to use wmp?
  • Anything in Windows and/or Avast’s log file?
    etc etc etc.
  • What OS? XP Home Edition
  • What exact version of Avast? avast! 4 Home
  • What happens if you try to use wmp? A warning “An enternal application error has occured”
  • Anything in Windows and/or Avast’s log file? I have no Idea where those are… :-[

EDIT: Just noticed, It removed Paint too.

Avast does not remove any application. It looks like something else is going on.
Let’s start with making sure that your system is clean.
Read and follow the instructions HERE

What’s the exact error message you get? (including any numbers, if they’re there).

I scanned and It deleted something I needed, and removed MSPaint. I don’t know how it did but it did, because I used both the day before I got Avast.

avast! warns you and requires user intervention, you have to select Delete for avast to delete the infected file.

avast! doesn’t delete infected files automatically (only in the pro version can you set it to do that), the only automated option is to move infected files to the virus chest, where they can do no harm and if required can be restored from the chest.

Could you post a screenshot of the error box, please?

EDIT: Outlook Express = Gone. This program messed up my computer.

  1. The link above is not functional, sorry (it gives a “Page not found” error)
  2. What do you mean by “Gone”? Doesn’t work or what?
