I just installed avast on my computer and since my connection vpn does not start anymore! After some research I found that it was the mail agent that was blocking the connection and especially the email scan POP3 and IMAP4! Normal my vpn goes through port 465! When I uncheck the box pop 3 it works!
I tried to add exceptions via Settings / Exceptions / but it did not work, I tried to enter the process, ip, ip and port but nothing is done! I confess I do not understand how I can tell avast not to block my vpn without unchecking the pop 3 Imap4 box.
I installed the latest version downloaded on the avast site, I do not have the computer with me because it belongs to a colleague and can not check the exact version, but according to the interface I guess it’s the last.
To help you, we will need to know more information:
Which version of Avast, Free or Premium?
Which operating system?
Any previous antivirus programs that were (or are) installed?
Also, the email client program being used.
There was no antivirus installed before, because I reinstalled windows 10 pro.
But I have a free firewall “zone alarm”.Zone alarm does not interfere with vpn connection, only the POP3 and IMAP4 email scan of avast block connection of vpn.
I’m not sure what to do with the VPN (OPEN VPN) and the email client ?
@KevM,
Are you still having problems with Avast Mail Shield?
I would suggest doing a repair of Avast, which you can do through the User Interface
Menu>Settings>Troubleshooting
Otherwise a complete uninstall using avastclear.exe which you can down load, then re-installation of Avast Free.
I do not think it’s a software related to installation. Because I also have the pb on another computer with a different version of avast. According to my computer specialist this is related to the port that our vpn uses (the 465 which is a mail port apparently).
And I was looking for how to tell avast not to scan or to let go of everything that comes from open vpn software.
My computer scientist in my office, said me uncheck smtp, in the agent mail ! And my vpn work !
As my vpn goes through port 465, and the 465 is a port using ssl, avast blocked the output of the vpn by being ported.
