when Windows starts. It is a friend’s computer that I am trying to troubleshoot… they had Symantec on it before, but it was getting errors at startup too, so I removed it and installed this. It is a compaq 7AP140 with Windows 98 SE installed. I get an IP address and I can transfer files across my internal network, but it has no access to the internet, strangely. Is that what is causing the errors? Does anybody have any ideas about how I can get the Internet up and running if that is the problem? There are no firewalls running that I am aware of.

Do you mean Norton Anti-Virus form Symantec or something else ?

If NAV, check out the relevant link:
The NAV 2003 removal tool can be downloaded here: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/misc/consumer/Rnav2003.exe
Manual Removal NAV 2003 or earlier - Manual Removal NAV 2003 or earlier
A link worth looking at, which is a program removal tool that can remove the remnants of a number of different Norton Programs:
Removing your Norton program using SymNRT

If it is something directly from Symantec then you really need to find out the exact program and do a google search for symantec ?? removal tool (where ?? is the AV name).
