Avast mail scanner ?

Hi again,

unfortunatelly the problem with the mailscanner icon persists.
Any ideas of what it might be or what i can do?

@DavidR—>I already used ewido did found some high risk progs which i deleted.
Now it says my pc is clean…but yet the problem persist

@alanrf---->I cannot find the options for the internet mail scanner to turn the timer on.Maybe because i have the free version?

Thx N.

nikits72 double click the Avast Icon in the Task Bar (see the end of alanrf’s post)

Ignore any 023 reference to avast processes, this is a hiccup in the HJT 1.99.1 (especially missing file entry for avast), if you need any help with any of the analysis let us know.

Hmmm ,
it seems that spyware doctor ver. 4.plus.something did the clean-job correctly where the adaware and ewido failed to find which prog was doing the mess.

Up to now ,no more icon for me…we ll see…
It found a backdoor trojan…i can post it here if y want but there is no reason to i think…
Actually my personal belief is that every antivir e.t.c. company ‘makes’ malicious progs too in order the progs of the other companies not to be able to scan (or at least they will need some more time)
It is really frustrating that every different prog which i scan my pc with to find about 400 (in total) malicious progs/track cookies e.t.c. and about 1 or 2 high risk and i run them one after the other.
The last one i used was spyware doctor.I bet if i scan with ewido right now it will find different e.t.c.
Very frustrating…

Hopefully avast is really cool for the job it does.

Thx for reading this.

Thx for your help/

I think you are incorrect in your assumption that every antivir company makes malicious tools to prevent others detecting it, certainly not avast! The fact that when you have several security programs active they can conflict, so when running a scan with one I usually pause standard shield, so if malware that both can detect, both programs aren’t fighting for control.

A backdoor trojan, by its nature will open a backdoor into your system that will restore deletions, etc. So it is also important to have a firewall to help protect against unauthorised outbound internet connections.

The tools we have suggested are used for different threats/specialities that is why they can find different things and why you should have a multi-level/application approach to your system security. Anti-Spyware/Adware programs often find more minor stuff as virtually every cookie could be classed as a tracking cookie.

Yes you might be right…but then ,might you be wrong?
It is a hard fight for the companies after all, isnt it?It wouldnt be strange if some of them would use these ways ,would it be?
Certainly i am not the one to say what is going on since i aint have the knowledge.

Thx 4 sharing your opinion.
N.

P.S. Avast is my favourite .I wouldnt use it if i didnt had the opinion that it is a decent program under a decent company and i have changed a few untill i got satisfied with one.

There are some rogue spyware products that use false positive alerts to get you to buy them so this link is always worth a look http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm.

You have to have some trust in the major AVs not doing this backed up by internet research. Any that were/are using dubious methods/tactics would soon be found out, like the Sony Rootkit issue, that didn’t take long to hit the internet media/blogs, etc.

So at some point you have to trust some of them backed with research, otherwise think about selling your computer ;D ;D

A belated welcome to the forums and avast.

i doubt that is the utorrent cause the problem because i face the same problem too.

We have already confirmed that in this case, but if you are experiencing the same problem, if you can follow the suggestions we have made in this topic, excluding anything about utorrent.

More importantly can you answer any questions also asked to help us to help you.

@ DavidR-----> Thx 4 the wellcome mate. As it is said : Better late than never
