avast mail shield interferes with thunderbird email program

i’ve had to disable inbound email scanning (IMAP) and outbound SMTP scanning on the Mail Shield because it causes problems with connecting to Gmail server using thunderbird email program

free avast 21.4.2464 (build 21.4.6266.670)
thunderbird email 78.11.0 (32-bit)
windows 10 20H2 (OS Build 19042.1052)

none - it just wouldn’t connect reliably - asking for PWs, timing out
disabling incoming IMAP and outgoing SMTP fixed the problem instantly
the IMAP was disabled a few months ago - then the SMTP did the same more recently

and how about making the verification letters readable by humans - took me 5 tries to make them out

They are only for your first 3 posts, an anti spam function, one that doesn’t seem to bother spammers though.
