avast makes icon generation slow on flash drive

I have a flash drive which contains primarily installers for all of the programs I use. When I plug it into some of my Windows 7 machines, opening the the root of the flash drive in Windows Explorer takes 30-45 sec. to display all of the icons of the .exe installers. During this time the entire computer is unresponsive and unusable. Then, if I scroll down to show more installers, the pausing happens again as it slowly displays the icons for the installers in Windows Explorer.

Turning off the avast! shields makes this not happen and all of the installer icons display instantaneously with no perceived lag. This just happened on a freshly installed and updated Windows 7 SP1 32-bit. Before I installed avast!, opening the flash drive was extremely snappy, but after installing avast! (free), this issue pops up again.

Oddly enough, this doesn’t happen on my laptop with Windows 7 SP1 64-bit installed, but it does on two desktops with Windows 7 SP1 32-bit installed.

Any advice on how to resolve this issue or if you are experiencing something similar, please feel free to chime in!

Thanks!

Is spybot running in real time ? if so disable, a better application would be Malwarebytes imo.

You can also disable defender, not needed with avast and its only burning up resources.

Spybot is not running in real time, Defender is on but it doesn’t seem like that is the problem.
