avast malicious process?

MBAM pro keeps telling me that its blocked a malicious site but the process is avast?

any idea whats going wrong?

nope…the request goes true avast webshield so to mbam it looks as avast
posted many times here…

so nothing to worry about or are they clashing?

it is just the way MBAM see it…

however what you have that is trying to connect to that URL is another question…is it you surfing, trying to go to that URL or does it happen when not doing anything?

I get an error saying connection reset/ problem loading page when browsing then when I click again for example mlb.com I get the following error from MBAM saying its blocked a malicious site and avast is mentioned as you can see

pretty sure this only happened when I upgraded to 8?

Add AvastSvc.exe in the ignore list

That won’t make any difference as the Process isn’t the issue, but the IP address.

Read Pondus’s replies as to why the avastSvc.exe process is involved at all (it controls the localhost proxy redirect for http traffic so it can be scanned).

Personally the MBAM Pro malicious sites blocking doesn’t do what it says on the tin, as it blocks other sites for different categories. I think it is more trouble than it is worth and somewhat redundant with avast’s network shield and web shield.

I agree with you, but AvastSvc.exe must be in the ignore list for avoiding problems with the real-time protection of the 2 programs. Otherwise, it’s like having 2 antivirus programs

I haven’t made any provision for excluding avast in mbam or mbam in avast and haven’t had any issues on either my XP Pro or win7 netbook,

The only exception I have made is to add the c:\windows\temp_avast_ folder to the Ignore list as that is where avast unpacks/sends files it is going to scan.

No problem. I will also add this as exception. In my opinion, i think it’s better to add the avast folder and process( personal view).

okay thanks. does this have anything to do with the fact I keep getting the error message

Firefox can’t find the server at forum.avast.com.

Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of
www.example.com
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network
connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Not unless MBAM is blocking the forum IP address, but even if it were then you would be getting an MBAM IP blocking message.
