Avast maxes out CPU on my computer.

I am running the free version of avast on my windows 8 computer it says it has version 2014.9.0.2018. I used to run fine, but when I restarted my computer for an update the program Avast! Service quickly goes up to 95% of the CPU on my computer and maxes it out. Is there a way I can lower the CPU of Avast on my computer.

Curious problem, I have not seen this on the one computer I have running Windows 8.1. I think that something else is going wrong to cause this issue. Perhaps check Windows Update and “View update history” to verify that all updates are installed, and none have failed?

Yes, you can lower the priority of a process on Windows 8. Here is a link to the Windows Eight Forums with instructions: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/23830-processor-priority-level-set-processes-windows-8-a.html

Or you could search for “lower CPU for program windows 8” in a search engine.
