Avast Message after restart of computer [RESOLVED]

Hi everyone. I have updated Avast Free to version 7.0.1456.
After restart of computer a popup message from Avast shows up (apparently after every restart) “complete your software update click finish”.
How to avoid this message showing up? ???

I swiped these instructions from another forum member. It’s caused by an error in the avast5.ini file. (at step 4)

  1. Avast main GUI → settings → troubleshooting → disable the self defense module and save settings (don’t worry about the messages, accept).

  2. search for the file “avast5.ini” (even if it is version 7 of avast); EDIT the file with notepad. On Windows XP, the file is located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast
    On Windows Vista and 7, I am not sure but it should usually be in C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast

  3. in “avast5.ini”, look for the “[common]” section. There should be an entry named “ShowSetupOutro”.

  4. change the above entry “ShowSetupOutro” from 1 to 0 (zero).

  5. save the file and reboot.

  6. go back to avast main GUI → settings → troubleshooting → enable the self defense module and save.

Being that thread also dates back to febuary we could still be looking at a separate issue here as that fix has not worked for some and are reporting that there ini file is already set to 0 and another one’s is set to 2 ???

Iv been browsing through the avast5.ini and i cant even see the entry ShowSetupOutro, i must be blind 8)

I have three computers using avast, two windows 7 and one windows 8 PR. All three had this message appear. I am still using 7.0.1451 Pro on all three, had planed on going to 7.0.1456 tomorrow, wanted to let the dust settle on the new update before doing it. I found the file listed here and it was set to 2 on all three. But I decided to restart the computers before doing anything. Message appeared and I click on Finnish the second time. After that looking at the ShowSetupOutro it was set to 0. So there must be some bug because I have been using 7.0.1451 since Monday and this is the first time I got the message. Also like to repeat that it appears if you just click finnish on the message and restart the computer and do this a couple of times it will reset it to the needed 0 instead of the 2 it is set to. Just wanted to post for people who do not want to mess with the ini file it might be a little easier to try what worked for me, click on the Finnish button of the message and restart the computer and do this twice. slybo

showsetupoutro will be located in the [common] section of the ini file.

and yes, it could be 0, 1 or 2
A regrettable state of affairs for an on/off switch to have 3 options…

guess they promised google more than they should have and now we’re paying the price

I find this Google Chrome offer very irritating and a form of spyware that Avast is pushing.

Google chrome isnt spyware it’s a browser, if you dont want it then dont install it or uninstall it.

You had better make the rounds of all the other companies that also offer google such as Skype, CCleaner and many others, get rid of your google search engine as that also has a reference to install Chrome.

Welcome to the forum. :slight_smile:
It’s something that’s offered. It isn’t pushed. You have the option to refuse the offer.
Many of us happen to use the Chrome browser and find it an excellent choice as our default browser.
If you don’t feel the same way, simply refuse (uncheck) the option to install the Chrome browser.

Seems that the message not every time shows up at restart. (I’ve been restarting my computers several times)
When we can expect a fix by Avast (new program update), what you think? ::slight_smile:

If you don’t want Chrome, then uninstall it. Clean your machine afterwards (CCleaner Slim version is good to use), and let us know how it goes.

Message does not showing up anymore.
Maybe Avast or Ccleaner have fixed this issue.
We’ll see.
