[UPDATED: I wanted to change title of thread (slightly) to accommodate for “ongoing” Windows Updates & Feedback]
[ALSO here is link to original thread on the botched November Updates & Avast Issues] https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=160717.0
OK, wanted to check to see if anyone has tried the HUGE amount of Windows updates that just came out ?
I post this thread here because last month’s caused issues. https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=160717.0
To be clear state your O/S (Win7/8, 32/64, etc.) and Avast Version (2014/9, 2015/10).
(5) DELL i5 W7 64-bit Laptops Updated with 20+ updates & Free Avast 9/2014…all OK.
(1) DELL i5 W7 64-bit Laptop Updated with 21updates & Free Avast 10/2015…all OK.
Note, only Shields installed on all Avast installations.
All Shields and Avast Self Protection ON when MS Updates applied.
I am running Windows 8.1 (64 bit) and installed all the updates including the 2 optional updates. I had major issues just like last month. I did not turn off Avast before the update which I probably should have. I used the Avast removal tool in safe mode to uninstall Avast Premiere. After rebooting, everything was back to normal again! I honestly don’t know what to think about what happened or what’s happening.
KB3004394 failed to install during update/install process
Win 7 Home Prem. 64 bit, Avast Premier 2015 - both current updates until this morning
Now I’m trying to find a way to get back to the Win update screen to untick 30084394! Clicking the Stop Installation button didn’t do anything.
Glad that I checked the forum!
Thanks so much
UPDATE: I crossed my fingers and restarted to allow updates to complete installing. Fortunately, 3004394 didn’t try to reinstall and all seems fine. Now I have 2 new updates to install, but not the 4394 one.
On my Windows 7 x64 system, the updates seemed to work fine with avast!, but not with Windows itself.
KB3004394 made a mess of core Windows functions. UAC got borked so that .exe files in the Windows and System directories wouldn’t run without requiring UAC confirmations (sometimes more than once), everything else ran slower than usual, boot time was much longer, etc. Microsoft has apparently since pulled this one, which other forums have identified as an update for Root Certificate Manager, from Windows Update.
After uninstalling 3004394 but keeping the others that came through yesterday, everything works fine again. So, it seems you can install everything except this one, and should have no problems.
As they point out in the article…I have MS Updates set to “tell me” about the updates then I wait for few days and then research what MS has borked or not and THEN install. Frankly, this is my strategy with most software but especially Windows, iTunes, iOS, & Avast updates…a little “wait & see” with a sprinkle of “Google or Forum search is your friend” can save a lot of nightmares.
I updated/installed the KB3024777 on one of my W7 64bit PCs…went OK…reboot fine, tried few things seems to work.
I did see it shows in the Window Update History but oddly I cannot find it in the Program & Features > Installed Updates.
Anyone else see same thing ? …odd because I assume they would want to be able to uninstall of this one had issues.
@thekochs
I believe that kb3024777 is used only for removal of kb3004394,so I guess that is why you
don’t see it in Installed Updates.I already uninstalled kb3004394,so kb3024777 wasn’t offered to me.
