Avast mobile App - text messages

Hi there,

I have submitted a ticket for a reply but i have not received a response. I had Avast anti virus and security App on my Android phone and i upgraded my phone contract and so my phone number was transferred to the upgraded SIM, which would be used in a new phone. Since this happened in September I have had 88 text messages sent from my phone in November without my permission meaning that i was charged £21.46 for these. In December a total of 119 text messages have been sent again without my knowledge or permission meaning that my network provider EE has charged me £29, with added VAT costing me £40.50. I have been charged a total of £69.50, for messages to the number 0420720001669. I have read that Avast may send ONE text message from my phone, and definitely no more. So please can someone explain why Avast have incurred a £69.50 charge in text messages from my phone. I would like this money refunded to me, how do i go about getting this back?

avast did not get anything from that money, only your provider does.
It was your own choice not to disable the sms messages.

I wasn’t even aware that Avast send text messages from the phone, especially not 207 of them! I have turned off all security and deleted the phone from the account, will this stop more from being sent?

You will need to setup the new sim card before you can disable everything.
As long as avast does not recognize the new sim card as “legitimate”, it will keep running and sending messages.
If it didn’t do this, each thief could easily disable it and that is not wanted ofcourse.

Follow the second link, after that make the changes to the settings as you want to have them.
Deleting the phone from your account only prevents you from sending commands to it from your account,
it doesn’t stop avast from working.

I wasn't even aware that Avast send text messages from the phone
It is mentioned on the website, here on this webboard and in the manual. Sorry to hear you had to learn it the hard way. I know many (most?) people don't read manuals, but they often have things in it that are really useful to know.

About your ticket, have patience.
The ticket system is cluttered at the moment and avast is really working hard to solve things.
Don’t create a new ticket or change the current one.
If you do, you will be put back at the bottom of the stack and you will have to wait longer.

Only thing I (and most others here) can do is giving you information.
Just like you, I am only a avast user.

Thanks for your reply. but because i have deleted the phone from the account on the website i cannot add a new sim. i am not using that old phone any more or the original SIM so if i put the SIM back in, will it stop the text messages?

Actually i have lost the original SIM but there is no new SIM in the phone as i have a new phone, so what can i do to stop the messages? as i have already deleted the phone from the account after disabling everything.

I don’t know how to solve it now.
Let’s hope someone else steps in and can tell you.

Reported to Moderator. Hope that helps.

Thank you, i need these messages to be stopped ASAP as i am getting charged each month for all these messages! I simply cannot afford it considering they have sent 207 in 2 months.

For now, I would say call your provider.
Tell how/what and ask them to block the messages and not charge you for them.

My network provider can only put a block on international texts and calls as a whole not one specific number and i regularly contact my parents who live in france so i cannot put a block on them.

Every provider can block just one number.
If they tell you they can’t, they are lying.

I’ve phoned up EE twice now and spoke to two different people and they both said they cannot block texts to a single number

Off course, they can. As long as the antitheft is not installed on the device, no SMS will be sent. You can also turn off the messaging by opening antitheft>avast account>send SMS to avast (off)
