avast! Mobile, Outdated! message

Greetings All

I’ve googled this issue and looked around the forum, and found nothing. If it’s a known issue, please direct me accordingly.

Recently installed avast! Mobile on my Samsung Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100G), running Android version 4.0.3 (ICS). Phone is NOT rooted, but planning to do this soon.

When I open avast!, there is a highlighted “Outdated!” button in the top right corner. Clicking this button returns error message:

“Connection to the update server failed. Check your Internet connectivity and try again.”

I also tried “Settings” > “Check for updates now”, but I get the same error message.

“Data network mode” on the phone is enabled and other apps on the phone can access the Internet with no problem. Within avast!, all connection types are enabled (Wifi, 3G and R).

Any ideas?

How are you connected?

Connected via 3G, which sometimes shows as H+. I don’t have access to any Wifi networks at present.

Hi,

in which country are you at the moment?

Filip

I’m in South Africa and my service provider is Vodacom.

Hi,

could you try to surf to avast.com using your mobile browser? Does it load or not?

Filip

Yes can log on fine using installed Firefox for Android, sending this from my Samsung phone now.

I can also surf to www.avast.com but trying to download avast! from there doesn’t work; takes me to Google Play site and Install button on that page doesn’t do anything… could try uninstalling and reinstalling if that would help… any ideas?

Hi,

hmm, that’s weird then. Can you send me a list of all apps you have to my email havlicek[at]avast[dot]com? I can check if you are not using an app that might be blocking our update servers in some kind. Already seen some of those (firewalls, permission managing apps etc).

Filip

Thanks Filip, replied by email.

Are there any updates on this issue as I am experiencing the same problem. I am also from South Africa, on Vodacom network using Samsung Galaxy 10.1 (GT-P7500) recently updated to ICS OTA.

Hi,

I’ll check the emails tomorrow at work.

Filip

OK, found the emails. It seems that the customer with that problem had a proxy set up in his 3G profile. Once he removed the proxy profile, the updates started to work correctly.
