AVAST & Mozilla

I just downloaded AVAST. I use Mozilla Foxfire & Thunderbird. Do I need to adjust anything for Mozilla products to work?

When I get an e-mail, I do not see any AVAST message saying there is or is not a virus.

I have AVAST 4.6 Home Edition
Windows 98

Thanks

Left click "a"in system tray, click internet mail, then customize.

Yes, because you’re using Windows 98.

  1. For Firefox, set up your browser to use the WebShield port 12080.
    More info here: http://www.avast.com/eng/webshield_issues.html#idt_6870

  2. For Thunderbird, see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?action=display;board=2;threadid=7913;start=0#msg64228
With Win98 SE you should have:
    pop3 server= smtp server = 127.0.0.1
    username = mail.server.coml#user or mail.server.com#user@server.com
smtp authentication enabled and the username there = mail.server.coml#user or mail.server.com#user@server.com

  3. You have to allow avast! components to connect the Internet into your firewall settings.

I assume that the emails are being scanned (Scanned Count will increase) and avast icon will rotate? - if so then see timcan’s second image to insert note. - if not follow Tech’s step 2. or see the avast help file Setting up the Mail Protection - help: manual setting of mail protection

See this information about the Web Shield.

I can connect to the net using my short cut key from my internet provider but not through Thunderbird.

I checked my settings for e-mail. Everything seems OK and can send and receive emails with the AVAST message regarding virus, but when I try connecting via Thunderbird I get this error message:

Sending of user name did not suceed. Mail Server 127.0.0.1 responded. Cannot connect to POP server . . . … connect error 10065.

Any ideas?

Ensure that your firewall allows access to ashMaiSv.exe, the Internet Mail scanner, otherwise no email.

Did you run Mail Protection Wizard?

  1. Configure your email accounts to work without the antivirus and test them.
  2. If everything is fine, close all your email clients (programs).
  3. Start Menu > All programs > avast antivirus > Mail Protection Wizard
  4. Follow the non Outlook/Exchange option (i.e., the second one).
You can choose the supported email programs and select all the accounts
(even the ones created in the future).
  5. Configure your email accounts to use avast! as antivirus.
