I have recently downloaded and installed Avast on my MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion:

When I booted up my Mac, I received this error:

It opened to a page that stated that I needed to “repair” Avast, and it stated that I needed elevated privileges:

I am the ONLY account on my mac, and am elevated. So, I clicked on the “repair” button and it asked me to input my password(which I did) and then it started up to this screen:

Now, it won’t update the virus defs, scan anything, or do ANYTHING.

I am really considering on just removing the AV altogether, as it is free, so it seems to not be worth the hassle. I am not one for messing around too much with “free” things, as it seems to me that free is too good to be true.
If I can get some help as to fixing this issue in a fairly prompt manner, then I will continue to use avast, but if this is how the free version is going to be, then why would I even consider buying the internet security from avast?
BY THE WAY! I also closed avast like the SS above says, and reopened it. The problem still persists. How do you think I thought to SS every step?
-----EDIT-----
Will post the log file when I can figure a way around the “The message exceeds the maximum allowed length (10000 characters).” message.
