Avast new install blocking TBird from accessing Astraweb ng's

Just installed Avast 5.0 free +Comodo 4.0.1 free to replace expired Avira premium. All seems well, except when I try to access text NG’s in TBird, I get the error “A News NNTP error occurred: cannot connect to NNTP server (#), Connect error 10061” Turning off Avast, I am able to access the NG’s as usual. Turning off Comodo makes no difference. Any ideas? I’ve searched this forum, can’t find anything which seems to apply.

what happens if you remove comodo ?

Do you mean removing it entirely? I haven’t tried that, but turning it off (setting it to “Disabled”) makes no difference.

Thanks for the reply. I got it to stop by deselecting “scan newsgroup messages”. Given that these are text NG’s, I don;t think they’re much of a threat.
