I was told that I posted to thr wrong board,so I’ll repeat.
I installed avast 4.6 today. Even studying the help info, I can’t understand what I have to do to set up scans etc. There must be a 1-2-3 etc. steps that I could follow so that I get it all correct.
Is there novice help available ? Thanks
But we have posted the answer there… did you read them? did you try what David and I posted there?
I installed the home version and it has been doing everything automatically.
I went to the ‘About Avsast’ and registered and did a few preference
things, but otherwise, it seems automatic. What specifically are you
wanting to do that the program doesn’t do automatically?..
Thanks Johnful.
I would like to know how to update. What does the twirling icon in the tray indicate?
I also would like to know how to scan for virus.
I have other questions but they can wait until I learn the above three
Thanks
Update for the most part is automatic unless you change the settings.
The icon spins when files are being scanned.
You were told how to scan in the other thread.
I suggest you spend some time browsing the avast help file as much of what you ask is covered there.
ok ! I’m getting there. thanks.
new question : when I hold the mouse over the avast icon in the system tray, it says:
on-access scanner: 7 provider(s) total-6 running.The running number changes sometimes.
What is the meaning of this and do I have to do anything? Thanks
The running number changes during startup as they each become active, but that shouldn’t change after boot unless you pause or terminate one.
Click the avast icon and you will see a screen pop-up, click on the Details… > button if you can’t see a list of all the providers.
You may have some that you don’t use, IM or P2P for instance, these can be terminated.
As reported before, the message “The provider is waiting on the subsystem to start” will be shown there until you open MS Outlook.
The plugin will be enabled automatically after that.
