Avast News message launches IE

I avoid Internet Explorer like the plague. So, I was very surprised to find that when I clicked on the Avast! News link in the Avast! notification window it opened an IE window. My default browser is Chrome. This might have caused problems if I had any malware attached to IE, which I run into frequently.

Is there a way to make Avast! respect the default browser? If I uninstall IE, will Avast! know to launch a different browser? Otherwise, I’ll just ignore those news alerts.

I’m afraid not. Right now, the iNews window is rendered through IE engine, and it opens the links in new IE windows.

It will certainly be done differently in avast! 5.0, but in avast! 4.x it’s how it is.

I noticed the same about avast inews using IE browser, not the default one. and it’s good to know that avast v5 will correct this issue.

My kudos for the upcoming change too. This is one more example of why IE should be kept right up to date with security patches even if you never (intentionally) use it.
