Avast not anouncing it is active in windows 8

I have Avast premier on windows 8.1, windows action centre reports as Avast is inactive ? problem started when I upgraded from Avast free to premier. even if I activate it in action centre it is still reported as inactive ? any ideas or do I just stop the announcements ?
