Avast! not available on bootup

Hi, Upon booting up the Icon was red with a X in it and wouldn’t access. I right clicked the Icon to the Summary page to find a red lettered page saying basically that avast! couldn’t be accessed and I should click the FIX button or/then click the button below it to start Avast!. I clicked both buttons with nothing happening. I navigated to other parts of my Avast! where it always said Avast is not available. I tried re-booting figuring the problem was an incomplete startup process or something, but no luck. Lucky for me I have FD-ISR on my computer, so I booted to a different snapshot and then copied it to the one that didn’t work. Problem solved in a back handed way. Can someone please tell me what happened and how could I have fixed the problem the right way? ???

Me again. I can’t believe that after over 80 people read my post, no one from Avast! can give me an answer or an opinion. :stuck_out_tongue:

Never mind.

Sorry I didn’t see your post before. Have you checked to see whether it is the service or just the GUI not available during bootup. You can use Process Explorer http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx to see when things are really active in your system, and LoadOrder http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897416.aspx if you want to see down to the device driver level. Usually Avast! is active and protecting you long before you see the GUI established and verified.

Hi Sded, Thanks for responding. Fortunately the problem never re-occurred, but I was asking in case it did again in the future. As I mentioned, the GUI said Avast! couldn’t access. I guess that meant all I had was the GUI, but not the service. I will take your advice if it happens again.
