Avast not detecting virus

Hi.
I checked if avast was able to detect viruses on my computer using notebook (and a code I found online) after saving it, avast did nothing. I tried to save it as a .exe file, didn’t work. Then I went online and used a program that scans a selected file using 50 different anti viruses (avast being one of them) and it came up positive for virus. I have scanned it multiple times and the same thing happens again.
Any ide what I can do to fix this problem???

Can you give the link to the scanning website and upload the file in it’s original format @ wikisend.com

Post the DL link so I can analyse it

This is the site I used to scan https://www.virustotal.com/nb/
And the file was just a notebook file with the text X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

Can you post the Scan Results from VT? Thanks

Avast should definitely detect the eicar test string, there is something wrong.
Can you try that again with the files from eicar.com?
this string is not a virus, just a test string to test the shields for functionalaty.

The test results from VT should not matter. I only did it as a test.
Avast should be able to detect the file but it did not which means that something is wrong with avast.
I tried scanning before windows started as we’ll but nothing came up.
All I need is to know how I can fix my anti virus program so that it can detect viruses again.

god morgen, hvordan står det til i tynset.

do you have more then one antivirus installed?
when you open avast does it display anny error messages on the gui…something turned off?

I only have one antivirus program installed (avast)
When I open avast it has no errors and everything is turned on.

Thanks for replying so fast

if you scroll down and click the eicar.com file here. http://www.eicar.org/85-0-Download.html

any reaction?

Avast! Picks it up for me as EICAR Test-NOT Virus!

Try saving the file as .bat lars.

Example:

:s
start %0
goto :s

If you save that in Notepad as *.bat the detection should be BV:Starter-X [Trj]

Don’t launch that file. As it will crash your computer. (Loads Infinite CMD’s until Retstart/Crash/Hard Reboot)

it seems my avast started working again (i think) i still think i have a virus on my computer that avast does not detect but it started detecting th Eicar files
any ide on how i can remove my virus? (if i have one)

thanks for all the help so far
