Avast not running...and won't. Help!

This morning when I turned on my computer, the avast icon in the task bar has an “x” on it. It’s not running and when I go into the program the current status says it’s not running. It has a “Fix Now” button and a “Start Program” button, but when I click on those nothing happens. I tried restarting my computer, but that didn’t help.

I’ve had avast for what seems like eons and never had a problem! What could be causing this? Should I just remove the program and download it again?

Thanks!

Pam

try avast repair and reboot

For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

Maybe you should first follow the instructions attached in a recent post by Tech:

Two days ago there was an issue with a virus definition update. Now, forcing Avast’s updates seems to solve the problem.

*EDITED (Links added)

Pondus and Tetsuo, going in and updating avast from the add/remove programs did the trick! This was the second option in the “instructions” link Tetsuo provided. (I already knew that clicking on the “Fix Now” button within avast didn’t work.) I quickly scanned a few topic headings before posting, but I should have done a search for this, too. I’m kinda brain-deprived this morning and didn’t even think about doing that(been working too much and not sleeping enough!).

Thanks so much for the quick response and help!!
