Avast not running because the "configuration is incorrect."

avast! Antivirus
Version 11.1.2245.1540

Today when I tried to scan a file using Avast I received the following message:

"C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\AvastUI.exe

This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

Windows Event Viewer shows errors similar to the following going back to 1/31/2016 (the oldest entry):

Does this mean that I’ve been without antivirus protection since January 31? If the configuration for Avast becomes corrupted shouldn’t I have received a notification or warning message stating that I am no longer protected?

You are running a Old version of avast!.Pls update to newer one:https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=182468.0.Let see if problem is sloved or not

Well, my pc is protected now but it takes ten minutes to boot up. Seems that every good antivirus program eventually turns into memory hogging, bloatware.

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?
