AVAST not running

Dont think so. Is it enough if I have AVAST running or should I activate the Malware program as well?
Best regards to you and I whish you a GREAT weekend!

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Run OTL
[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

:Commands [resethosts] [emptytemp] [CLEARALLRESTOREPOINTS] [Reboot]

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done

Remove ComboFix
[*]Hold down the Windows key + R on your keyboard. This will display the Run dialogue box
[*]In the Run box, type in ComboFix /Uninstall
(Notice the space between the “x” and “/”)
then click OK

http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/Misc%20screen%20shots/CF_Uninstall-1.jpg

[]Follow the prompts on the screen
[
]A message should appear confirming that ComboFix was uninstalled

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
[*]Click Start.
[*]Open My Computer.
[*]Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
[
]Click OK.

Hey Guys!

I’m having the same problem… Could you help me fix it?

I’m using Avast! Free Antivirus Version 7.0.1474

Windows7 Home Edition OS 64bit Service Pack 1

My Avast was working until this afternoon and suddenly is not running anymore
I already tried to repair and reboot my computer and it still crashed.

See attached images for what is happening.

Thanks Bros!

Hey i am suffering the same issue as you (seen your attached pictures) mine looks the same , i reset my computer and when it turned back on my Avast! was not working.
i am not very computer intelligent, but i also have a "Windows security alerts " that is now showing up when it never did before. and when i try to hit the “Fix Now” button because it says my Avast is “Unsecured” nothing happens? Need help?

I, too, am getting the same issue. I am running 7.0.1474, although I was beta testing v8 when it crashed. I kept messing with it and, since it kept pointing me back to v7, I just reinstalled that, but that didn’t seem to fix it. It says that the avast! service is not running. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have any recent unpXXXXX files in the folder C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log ?

There is no folder titled log nor any files starting with unp… Could that be what’s wrong?

No, it’s just where the information about the possible crash would be stored.
But the folder is certainly there (on Windows XP, it’s C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\log). THe whole ProgramData folder may not be visible if hidden files are not configured to be shown in Explorer settings.

Sorry, hand-jammed it and went to the wrong filepath. I have several files now starting with unp, but they end in tmp.mdmp or tmp.mdmp.status, and it won’t let me upload them. Any suggestions?

Are the files recent? (like from today?)
If so - would you please be able to upload them to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming
?
To do so, you can e.g. open Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer), copy&paste the URL into the title bar, wait till it connects and then drag&drop a few of the files into the lower pane.
Thanks!

I’m also having the same problem - (as per gscgiu’s screenshots) with 7.0.1474.

I’ve searched, but there are no unpXXXXX files on my computer.

(Windows7 Professional OS 64bit Service Pack 1)

I also have 3 systems (1 Windows XP Home SP3, the other 2 are Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 X64) where Avast is suddenly disabled.

Can you please also check the content of the Log folder, and possibly upload the log files?
Furthermore, can you please check the aswAr.log file there and post the last few lines here?
Thanks.

uploaded the contents of \programdata to your FTP site in 7zip format. The last couple of lines of the logfile are as follows:

I also have the problem that Avast is not running the protection services on one om my computers. And when I press the button to start all services nothing happens. And Windows security central doesn’t complain as it usually does when protection is down.
But the strange thing is that under the registration folder it says (translated from swedish):
Registration valid until: 2013-12-20
Date of registration: 2012-12-20
But then it says: 0 days left

I’m running XP-Professional

Here’s another person where Avast doesn’t want to run today. I shutdown my system last night with no signs of any problems, and upon boot today it just says “Unprotected - Service stopped”. The repair option doesn’t fix it.

According to the Windows service applet and Process Explorer, the Avast service is running. An internal communication problem between Avast modules?

It’s probably just a symptom and not the cause of the problem, but mine also says that my license has expired on Jan 30th (even though I had successfully re-registered just a few days ago). When I hit the register button, it says something about an RPC problem, which points into the “internal communication problem” direction, too, I guess.

Avast Free 7.0.1474
Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

EDIT: have to correct myself: it says my licence will expire on jan 30th 2014, but I have 0 days left.

HELP !!! , why is my avast security not running, i have followed all instructions exactly as shown, i have paid for this service and i expect to use it, someone please help, or let me no wats goin on??? thanx all

From this thread (reply #11):

Did this. The fix button alone didn’t work, but a reboot afterwards did. Everything seems OK now. Thanks.
