I just installed Avast 4.7 free last Thursday and so far so good,except today I just
downloaded a new program installer.exe into my documents.and when I right
clicked on it and clicked on scan with Avast, all that happened was a blink of the
eye glance of the splash screen and than nothing.So I don't know if it was scanned
or not. Is there a glitch somewhere or did I do some thing wrong. I tried scanning
a couple of other files with the same results.
The results for ashquick are turned off by default. Unless of course something is found, then you will get sirens and a popup along with a voice notification.
If you turn on results for explorer extention you will be presented a results screen.
To do so, right click the “a” icon, select program setting and check the box beside show results of explorer extention.

The right click context menu scan is by its nature a quick scan (ashQuick.exe is the file used to scan) to let you get on with what it is you are doing. If nothing is detected it will just close, if however, something is found all hell will break loose with an audible and visual alert, so you will know if something is up ;D
You can elect to see the results as oldman explains.
