I have just installed Avast home edition on my laptop. It does not appear to be scanning my emails. I am using windows mail and vista.
When I click on the Avast icon on my toolbar it brings up the window showing installed providers and windows mail is not there. Instead there is Outlook/Exchange with the message that the provider is waiting for a subsystem to start. Can you help me to get it to scan my emails. Thank you
Internet Mail provider is what scans your email.
Which is your email provider? Gmail? Yahoo? Note, avast can’t scan encrypted email (SSL, TSL connections).
The message “The provider is waiting on the subsystem to start” will be shown there until you open MS Outlook.
The plugin will be enabled automatically after that.
Make sure the avast plugin is not disabled into MS Outlook:
Outlook 2007 > Tools > Trust center > Add-inns > Manage Disabled items.
Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items.
Outlook 2002 > Help > About Microsoft Outlook > Disabled items.
Outlook 2000 > Tools menu > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager.
