I have been using Avast Free for some time. Recently bought IS 2014 and install; the problem since day one was that the AvastUI.exe was not starting up post restart for some reason. I always had to manually run it.
I searched the forum and tried all the solutions,
Repair did not help.
uninstall and re-install did not help.
Downloaded avast utility and ran it from safe mode; no success.
I thought of creating my own run entry for AvastUI.exe /nogui in registry. So when I looked in to regedit; to my surprise the existing entry was not there. It should be at HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run, but it wasn’t.
So I checked the 32 bit view of registry for the key, HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and indeed the entry was there.
So I created an entry in the 64 view, HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run (just copied it from the 32 bit), did a restart and first time since I installed avast; it worked.
So if you are facing same issue; this is worth trying.
…Now…
2. Uninstall Avast by Control Panel>Programs [If you don’t have Avast in control Panel go to #4]
3. Run Avastclear in Normal Mode and allow it to Reboot PC into Safe Mode to complete the removal process.
4. Run Rejzors Uninstall Utility in Normal Mode (removes traces avastclear doesn’t) - reboot.
5. Be Sure To Check PC’s Device Manager…Control Panel>System Once Uninstall is Complete.
Make sure to show any hidden devices by selecting pull-down menu Device Manager>View>Show Hidden Devices
If there is anything related to Avast with a yellow triangle then uninstall it (highlight, right click) and reboot.
If you get an error just right-click & delete.
6. Install the Avast version you downloaded.
7. Reboot
This is not run from Safe Mode…you really need to look at my post #4 reply and run thru this in specific order I listed.
It will take about 30 minutes of your time…
