Avast not starting up

Hi, my problem is that my Avast Antivirus will not start when I start my PC.
I am not too glued up with these PC issues but I have run one of these clean up programs and it must have deleted certain files.
I have Win XP SP 3. can someone please assist me in this?
I have no idea how to make it start up when I start or restart my pc.

what AV did you have before you installed avast! ?
have you removed it ?
have you run a removal tool so all leftovers are gone after the uninstall ?
