I’m running Avast Free home on Windows XP. (Avast ver. 6.0.1125.) It is refusing to update the virus defs. Never had this problem before. When I try to update, the update starts, then stops, and it just says “8s” with an “OK” button. When I click on OK , it shows the current virus database version and tells me it’s out of date and that my last update attempt was weeks ago! I have the update settings set at “tell me when an update is available” and I usually update manually before a scan. But I tried resetting it to auto and went back in to update but still get the same result. Can anyone help me with this? Sure would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.
Hey, your email is showing public on the forum but if you don’t mind, thats cool, just a heads-up
How long has it been doing this, is it correct saying the last time you actually updated was weeks ago, or have you updated more recently?
Please choose in the settings “Direct connection to the internet” and “No Proxy”.
Does it work now?
I have exactly the same problem, though my computer is on Windows 7 Business ed… Avast is not updating since yesterday 29th June. Luckely my virus data definitions were updated on the 28th. I have tried doing what SKY said (“Direct connection/No proxy”) and still does NOT work. I feel really uncomfortable as my computer virus protection is not up-to-date. Any help will be truly appreciated before I reinstall avast or get another anti-virus. Thanks from Spain
same problem here in Italy. Avast doesn’t update since yesterday morning. The latest virus definition is 110629-0(version of the program 6.0.1125) released yesterday 29 june at 10.54.11 AM
Might have been a problem with the update servers, though that is hard to say for certain. I did not have any problems getting yesterdays updates but Avast! uses a multitude of servers.
