Avast Not Working After The Recent Product Update

Hello, i c/p this from the support ticket i send, cause i decided to put it here as well, in case someone knows the solution already!
So, avast notified me that there is a newer version and asked me to update it!
I pressed update, everything cool, and then it asked me to restart my PC for the update to be successful.
I used the restart later option, and after like an hour or so, i shut down my PC! Today i switched on my PC to see that avast is not working. I’m attaching an image of my desktop to see :

  1. the error message of when i try to start Avast.
  2. the Avast gadget showing black screen instead of that green tick that always has.
  3. the icons of the programs currently running on my pc (which avast was there before the update).

Please do something, as i don’t want to format my pc since its been like a month or so that i did so.
I would appreciate a fast reply as to what to do, so i can fix it and not be infected by anything.

OS: Windows 7 (64 bit)
Product: Avast internet security.

Thank you very much,
Gregory!

Hello and welcome to the forum!

You could try a repair of avast:

  1. Control Panel → Programs & Features → avast!
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

ill try that right away and post about the results, ty for your answers!

ok i just did that, nothing happened! still the same thing

Uninstall Avast via add/remove programs and reboot. Run the Avast uninstall tool and point it to the directory where Avast is installed. Reboot. Use CCleaner registry cleaner and reboot. Download and install a fresh copy of Avast.

Then try a clean install of avast:
1 Download latest stable version of avast: http://www.avast.com/download-software
2 http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (note the Windows Safe Mode detail).
3 Run aswclear several times, for each version / edition of avast ever installed or updated to in your system.
4 Install avast and restart after the installation finishes.
