Avast not working, may request refund

Hi, I am having severe issues with Avast after a fresh install of windows.

I cannot log into avast except through the website and the license/key do not work. I also cannot turn on the shields and it says a program is trying to turn it off.

I want to stress there is no virus or malware it is a completely fresh install of windows on a new hard drive.

here are my specs.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Asus M5A97 LE R2.0
16 Gigs HyperX DDR3
AMD FX 6 core black edition
AMD RX 480 8 gig black edition

I called into support and they could not help me even after being on hold for an hour.

Dont worry we all have the same issues , the letest update of avast is BROKEN !!!
Use the previous version at the moment and wait until they fix the newest one.

Whee do I get the previous version without any Nitro rubbish???

I’ve been able to contact someone from Avast. Hopefully she can reach the right party to solve this problem. Please be a little patient. It’s the weekend and the middle of the night in Prague.

Can you even get refund? I seriously doubt.

:frowning:
To through a new release the day before a week-end, in the evening means somebody has to be severally fired!
First time, Last time.
If this happens again, I change supplier.
I have 100€ licence. Still valid for some for a year.

The .2276 update worked fine for me on Thursday. Avast service stopped after restarting this morning so my guess is that the problem has been caused by the emergency update to fix the randomly appearing GUI … this is a really poor show on the part of Avast. In the meantime I’ve uninstalled and reverted to Win Defender until Avast fixes this, but I guess that millions of other users are accessing the internet unprotected.

If you search you’ll notice users are still protected https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=189221.0

It's good that millions of users aren't, in fact, unprotected but, annoyingly, that was posted after I'd done a complete uninstallation which didn't go smoothly.

If you’d looked at your task manager you would have seen the Avast services were still running despite the unprotected warning, even if no signatures were updated for a day or so the general user base would still have ample protection.

If Avast is telling me it's not running then my default position, in the case of something as serious as virus protection, is to take a safety-first approach and believe it.

It is solved right now, just run C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\AvastEmUpdate.exe and reboot.

Since the AvastEmUpdate.exe doesn’t have a UI, make sure that you give it ample time to complete it’s task (Watch the activity on Task Manager) before you re-boot.
