Avast not working with Slack

To add to my list of Avast gripes I have just had to pay out for my IT guy to fix an internet connection issue.
He identified the problem is Avast.
I use Slack to remotely communicate with work colleagues and over the course of the last week found that my internet connection was dropping out. Slack appeared to be involved and so I uninstalled it but the problem persisted.
Long story short, my IT guy identified that Avast was the problem. He uninstalled Avast and I reinstalled Slack. I have had no connection issues since.

What with other broken features and increasingly aggressive sales campaigning, Avast is actually costing me money now. After 20 odd years I am throwing in the towel. Avast are not listening to their customers anymore and its a broken app. As such I will not be renewing my subscription next year.

Yeah, I’ve seen Avast mess with network stuff before. If you still wanna use it, try disabling the Web Shield or HTTPS scanning first, that sometimes fixes connection drops without fully uninstalling. But honestly, if it’s already causing you this much hassle, switching to something lighter like Windows Defender might be the way to go.

Thanks Kevin! Good to know.

Hi,

We are sorry to hear that you were facing an issue. I want to double-check whether you are saying that slack doesn’t work in our browser, OR you mean the Avast antivirus is blocking access to Slack?

Thank you.

Having paid for an IT specialist to isolate the problem I can confirm that Avast will not permit Slack to run on my PC. There is a conflict between the two causing my internet connection to drop out, requiring a restart only to repeat the process the moment Slack is opened again.
Slack was uninstalled and the situation improved a little but I still experienced dropped internet connection.
I have now uninstalled Avast on my PC and Slack now runs perfectly. Also there have been no dropped internet connections since then.

Avast is causing the problem and it has cost me money to troubleshoot the issue to say nothing of the remaining months I have left on my subscription for an app I cannot use.

Could you please clarify whether you are writing about the Avast Browser or the Avast Antivirus? Which of these two blocked Slack from running on your PC?

Thanks!

This is Avast Antivirus.

Oh, I see. The section for antivirus-related issues is this one: Avast Free Antivirus / Premium Security - Avast Community . Please report the issue there so that the team can check. This section is intended for Avast Secure Browser topics.

Thank you!
