avast not works anymore = Virus ???

Hi,
I’m not able to run my avast anymore. If I try, I get the message “Access denied”.
Same effect if I try to look at the Avast files (in the Avast folder) with the windows explorer or with DOS-Command.
I work under Windows 2000 SP4.

What version of avast are you using, latest 4.7.844 ?

As a temporary measure change the folder permissions to ensure everyone has read permissions. This is a problem in how avast tries to avoid folder permission escalation where anyone could change files in the avast4 folders. This would appear only to happen with w2k and there is a beta for w2k users which resolves this until the next program update.

See this post and thread, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=21448.msg182517#msg182517 you can download the aswbeta.exe file, run that and it will update to the latest beta.

Please, download the last avast version and follow below:

  1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
  2. Boot
  3. Use Avast Uninstall for complete uninstallation (read http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_uninstall_util.html)
  4. Boot
  5. Install again the last version. :wink:
