The on-access scanning gets an error like RCP error, or something like that.
I’ve noticed the VRDB has been generating non-stop for about two weeks now.
I updated Avast because at the time I was using 4.8.0
But that didn’t seem to make a difference.
I went into services.msc and found the Avast service and started it my self.
About 30 minutes later I would find On-Access scanning would be gone again.
Now all of a sudden it was gone and started working again and VRDB is no longer generating.
Avast wasn’t working correctly for about 2 months and now all of a sudden its working again.
Any ideas what caused the error, and how it managed to fix its self?
Hi,
What operating system are you on ? is it fully updated ? Have you scanned your computer for viruses etc. Or used any other antivirus on your system before avast?. Try running some anti spyware programes to ensure that you are clean? (MALWARE BYTES OR SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY) Free ones to use.
Windows XP Professional SP3, fully updated, as far as I know I don’t have any spyware or viruses, no I don’t have an other anti-virus systems or spyware protection.
Avast is messed up again
Scanning for spyware and viruses now, will post back when finished.
Don’t worry about VRDB. It’s an obsolete technology.
Concentrate your efforts on get avast working again.
Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?
Repairing didn’t seem to work, I’ll uninstall before my next shutdown and boot into safe mode, run the cleaner and download the 5.0 beta and install it, as it doesn’t seem like 4.8 likes me all that much.
Before uninstalling, please, post the last 300-350 lines of avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log
Or more, using more than one post if necessary.
Hi
You can disable VRDB Generator by right clicking the I icon in the tray. This feature will be dropped in Version 5. How much files are on your hard drive ? and how big is it?
