Avast on access scanner does not retain settings.

I am using Avast home version with Win98se and for a long time have had system restart problems. My Pc will shut down everytime but re-starts always hang. I found out that if I tell Avast to use XML instead of ODBC the re-start problem goes away but Avast will not retain my scanner settings. Once I re-boot, all my settings are gone and need re-set them all. I would rather use XML to get rid of the restart problem but how do I get Avast to remember my scanner settings when using XML. I tried a search in the forum but could not locate anything even though I thought I had seen the topic come up before.

A trick:

  1. Made all your changes.
  2. Shut down all providers and exit (last option of avast)
  3. Boot

Great, worked like a charm. All the settings are now retained and I am able to do system restarts without problems. That’s what I like about this forum, problem always seems to go away!
