Avast On-Access Scanner Slows PC Boot

I am currently running Windows XP Media Center Edition and have just survived a long bout against a virus (I had to use ComboFix then use AdAware, SpyBot and Avast to scan everything and make sure all is clear.)

Currently, all that is running during startup are the required services and Lavasoft’s Adwatch. Whenever my computer boots WITH Avast On-Access scanner, my computer slows down (mouse moves slowly/choppily/slowmo) then I can’t do anything (can’t click on programs, CTRL+ALT+DEL doesn’t work).

I removed ashDisp.exe for the Startup/Boot using Safe Mode (using CCLeaner/Msconfig). After that my computer works fine.

I want to run ashDisp.exe on a regular/not-Safe Mode, but everytime I reenable it the problem reocurrs. I also tried reinstalling Avast but that didn’t help.

Any leads would be appreciated.

Is Media Center up to date with SP3 installed?

Yes. I ran Windows Update and it says that no updates are needed. Also verified through My Computer Properties.

I don’t know if i’m understand you correctly but you want to load Avast! when other programs are already loaded?
If so:
Go to Avast! config. pannel, problemsolving and then the second from above (in the Dutch version annyway) click “Slowdown Avast! startup after other services”
