"I’m currently using Windows 7 x64. When Avast shields are turned off, the CPU temperature stays around 54–60 °C.
But when the shields are on, the temperature goes up to 90 °C.
Can you help me?

First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.
You don’t say what Avast Program and version number you are using nor any info on your CPU or system, so it is going to be a little guess work.
Given that Avast is an on-access antivirus and will scan all of your CPU activity (and consequently CPU temps) it is going to increase when you are active.
I don’t actively monitor CPU temps on my system (specs below my post), the only concession occasional hand over the laptop exhaust vents, warm.
I just downloaded an app Core Temp and it shows what is a low temp on this laptop. Whilst this doesn’t provide a more detailed breakdown to point to what may be the program it is a guide.
