Avast One Beta - Software Updater can't be switched off

I was surprised to find that in latest Avast One Beta for Windows, the Software Updater can’t be switched off. The toggle to switch off is only for paying customers.

Has Avast thought that some updated versions got bugs and we may not want to update until the bugs are fixed? Forcing us to update unless we pay is like we must use VPN and can’t switch it off unless we pay.

This practice is unethical and will definitely put off Avast One users. On the other hand, Avast Free will not auto-update unless we pay. So perhaps Avast One programmer made a mistake here.

The Beta Stream is different to the Regular Program version, I would suggest dropping back to the regular program version.

Unfortunately to do that you would need to Uninstall the beta and then install the regular release version of Avast One.

When you say Avast Free, presumably you are still talking about Avast One Beta.

I say this because I have been using Avast Antivirus (Free) for Windows for over 20 years and mine will Auto Update. That said I now have it Set to Update Manually so I’m in control of exactly when it updates and that isn’t an issue.

I can go back to the regular stable version but the beta version is a ‘preview’ of what the next regular version will be like. So if Avast wants us to pay to switch off Software Updater, and if it is intentional, one day the regular version will follow.

After I uninstalled, I tried Avast Free beta version. It allows manual software update but we have to pay for Auto-Update. The opposite of Avast One.

I prefer Avast One because if I put in on Silent Mode, there are no notifications on what was blocked. In Avast Free, there may be many blocked shown in Notifications and I have to delete one by one. If only Avast Free don’t show in Notifications the blocked items so that it is truly Silent.
