I would like to know if there is a way to whitelist a website in the browser AOS plugin to allow a website to function properly. I first discovered on my banking website that certain functions/buttons did not work properly if the plugin was enabled. I later was on a site doing some shopping, with the plugin enabled again, and found the same problem. Was looking at an item on the website and clicked on the “find in store” button and got no response. Again like the bank website, if I turn off the plugin and restart IE both sites function as expected. The plugin appears to block some functions on websites even if they have a “green thumbs up” rating.
I have installed version 9.0.2011 over 2008 using GUI with everything working correctly. With previous versions the Online Security plugin had to be disabled because of problems with slow web page loading or timing out. The latest update to the AOS plugin seems to be working well with little to no delay in web page loading.
Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit • Avast Free Antivirus 9.0.2011 • IE11
Enhanced Protected Mode is checked off under "Internet options>Security>Internet. So … yes. I could try turning it off, but if I turn off AOS everything works. How would that effect AOS?
Sorry my mistake … I was looking in the wrong place. Under “Internet options>Advanced>Settings Security” “Enhanced Protected Mode” is not checked. Default as you pointed out. I was looking at “Internet options>Security>Internet>Enable Protected Mode” which is checked. I unchecked that and restarted IE with no effect … still the same.
While on the affected website… click the AOS icon and deselect “Social Networks Blocked”, if that were not to work, try deselecting “Ad tracking blocked”… if that also were not to work, i’d disable “Web analytics allowed”.
It’s a case of finding the one with the issue, if that doesn’t work, deselect all 3 and try…
The problem on the websites seems to be with some buttons not responding. On the bank site it is the “Login” button, on the shopping site it is the “Find in store” button. Clicking on them produces nothing if AOS is enabled.
I’ve done a bit of experimenting with the different settings as you suggested.
By clicking the AOS icon and allowing Ad Tracking and Social Networking one at a time and together. Then under setting I’ve gone as far as turning of Ad Tracking and Antiphishing off altogether. Restarting IE after each change. In all cases the website buttons do not work with the first load of the web page. If I refresh the web page the buttons function as expected … and it does not matter what the settings are in AOS. If I disable AOS everything works the first time every time.
I’ve further discovered using IE11 with AOS enabled that quite a few sites have buttons for various things that do not function while AOS is on. If I go to the same web page using Chrome with AOS enabled the buttons work fine. So there appears to be a compatibility problem between AOS and IE11.
Dewey, perhaps a dumb suggestion but have you tried to add the website to the compatibility list within IE11 ?
I was finding many website with buttons (nothing to do with Avast) to not work in IE11 which they did work fine is IE10 or before.
I tried Firefox and no problem.
Stumbled on the “compatibility” whitelist…just go to IE11>Settings>Compatibility View Settings.
While you are at the offending website just add to list, restart IE11, try again.
Not sure this is your issue but thought I’d throw out the suggestion.
@Para-Noid
Thanks … Yea I’ve done that on the significant others computer. On mine I can deal with it. Just thought that I would give version 9 a try and see if things got any better. Definitely better than it was in version 8 … Had it turned off the whole time v8 was running.
@thekochs
Thanks … Didn’t really think of that since the icon in the title bar disappeared … good thought! It didn’t fix the link/button on the shopping site (www.kohls.com), but it did fix the problem on the banking site. Although the banking site then complained that I was using an out of date browser … ha ha. I’m thinking some sites are just poorly written or programed and will get sorted later on along with improvements to the AOS plugin.
