'avast! Online Security' shows bogus SETTINGS link on 'Firefox'

I’m running avast! Premier version 2014.9.0.2016 on my local machine and avast! Online Security is activated in my Firefox 29.0 primary browser. You can see the relevant window in the image below:

However, I’m unable to establish default settings for avast! Online Security because when I click on SETTINGS in the lower-right corner of the avast! window I’m taken to chrome//wrc/content/options.html where no content appears:

Or, if I click on the link I’ve just now posted in the preceding paragraph, I’m taken to http://chrome//wrc/content/options.html where the following page greets me:

Mind, my secondary browser is Google Chrome Version 34.0.1847.116 m and the above-mentioned process works just fine in that browser: I’m able to reach the default settings by clicking on SETTINGS. I paid my $49.99US and installed avast! Premier correctly, including the browser extensions for both Firefox and Google Chrome; but, due to said extension’s SETTINGS hyperlink not working properly in Firefox, I’m having to select avast! Online Security settings on every Web page of every Web site I visit, because I’m prevented from accessing the extension’s default settings.

I’m sure you’ll agree this situation is one big pain in the neck for me, the ickle customer—not to mention all the many other Firefox users out there in ComputerLand. Please help! What can I do? No, I’m not going to use Google Chrome as my primary browser. I’ve long since gone over to Firefox and here I shall remain. In the event, your helpful advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hooray! This problem has been solved, thanks to MikeBCda! I installed the earlier version of Firefox, 28.0, which is avast!-friendly. “This case is closed!”

I have the same problem with Firefox 28.0. My alternate browser is Internet Explorer 11 and I have no problem with that. I’m running on Windows 7 64 bit and I’m getting frustrated by having to update the online security settings every time I launch Firefox 28.0 (I have to use that browser for some sites because they do not display correctly in Internet Explorer.) Are there any other suggestions out there?

Short of massive and prolonged civil disobedience resulting in the overthrow of capitalism, S Grabowski, we’re stuck with having to endure these proprietary wars wherein every corporation tries to undermine every other corporation in a headlong rush of greed and selfishness. That’s why nothing works anymore.

:frowning:

But, seriously, I’m sorry to learn you’re stuck with basically the same problem I faced. Only I’m using one of the few Microsoft products which actually works: Windows XP Professional; and although Billy-Boy the Billionaire whines for even more of our money, I’m sticking with XP. The fact we XP users have been abandoned by Galloping Gates the Dollar Chaser is why I got avast! Antivirus in the first place.

???

Have you tried an earlier version of Firefox? I liked 29.0, but since it wasn’t properly designed and hence failed the avast! Antivirus test I had to drop back to 28.0 (which works with avast! Antivirus in XP). I hope someone who’s actually in the know will show up here and help you! Best wishes.

:frowning:

XP isn’t supported. Avast! can only do so much. Your system will be exploited to the gates of “Galloping Bill” and back if you don’t update to Vista/7/8.
