Avast install was a disaster…
I purchased a copy of the latest AIS and tried to install it on my Lenovo (Intel) laptop running XP. The computer slowed to a crawl afterwards and would not boot completely. I called the IYOGI people and they told me that all of the “problems” with my computer were what was causing the problem and that they could fix it. Well their tech worked on it for a few hours and all they ended up doing is trashing a perfectly good machine. They also tried to install it on another of my machines, (custom built AMD desktop running XP) and ended up trashing it also. Fortunately I had recent backups of both and managed to restore them back to working order.
I asked for my money back and they say that they are “escalating” my case to a higher support level and assure me that they will get the problem fixed. Somehow I am less than confident that they will. I sense sort of a shell game going on where you try to install the AIS and it screws up your system so the IYOGI people come in and show you a lot of supposed problems with your computer and then hook you into a service contract. Beware when someone tells you that you have a lot of problems on your machine and then promises to repair it… for a fee, of course. :

I replied in your first post, but continue here.

You will also need to apply the latest patch to fix xp issues http://public.avast.com/~kurtin/patches/#ap20111707002

I think that is somewhat early a judgement as there is nothing in this post to indicate what the problem is or which patch to apply. Just because they have XP doesn’t mean the patch is for them.

Well the op mentioned that the computer slowed to a crawl and wouldn’t boot properly which is similar to all the other xp users which had problems till installing that patch.

Well I never had a problem on this XP system, so it has to depend what software is on the system, e.g. the software associated with what is mentioned in the various patches or it will have no impact.
So until that is established it is premature.
Is it necessary to install these patches? I didn,t notice any problems between AIS and Xp

Obviously if you have no issues with your system then of course you dont need the patch, i recomended the patch simply because the OP mentioned slowing down problems after installing avast.
