AVAST PASSWORD REQUIRED

I opened my laptop and tried to deal with the Avast Antivirus I downloaded onto it. The dialogue box that appears on my screen demands the Avast password before I can do anything at all including uninstalling this program.

How can I find out what the password is if the emails sent by Avast never gave it to me?

They gave me my license key number and the order numbers but they say nothing at all about my password.

Where can I find this?

The password that the avast installation is referring to is user set. Though if you haven’t set one there appears to be some corruption in the installation (or possibly someone else has access to your system).

A reinstall is the only real way to get round this, but you will have to use the avast Uninstall Utility.

  • Download the latest version of avast, 8.0.1489 (see below as you didn’t say what version you paid for) and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

  • Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for all versions).

    1. Now uninstall avast! - using add remove programs, if you can’t do that (as appears to be the case) start from the next step, reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, it will request it be run from safe mode (and will handle the boot into safe mode), first for 7.x if previously installed and then for 8.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.
