Avast passwords no longer working in Chrome

I recentlly completerd a free trial of Avast cleanup premum as well as Premium Security and have returend to the basic free antivirus. Now my passwords are no longer accessible in Chrome.

My passwords no longer autofill and when I click on the Avast password extension in Chrome a “Hmm … something’s not right” message pops up and asks to make sure Avast antivirus is running. (It is running).

I have premium but passwords extention was blocked and turned off by firefox due to a violation so opening the extention i could turn my password auto fill back on.
BUT as you have now reverted back to avast free i dont think that offers the password option. Ive also seen posted on here passwords is becoming end of life and not available for new downloads.
Maybe @DavidR could advise as he uses the free version.

Did you reinstall Avast? If so, Avast Passwords database would be lost due to uninstall and no longer accessible unless you had enabled Sync when you use Premium. If you still have your passwords data on Avast Free, re-add extensions from Avast GUI would restore its functionality.

Thank you for sharing. I have reinstalled avast and then went to settings and clicked passwords (old) … but was unsuccessful.

I have decided to dump Avast entirely and go with google password manager and microsoft defender.

I am now in the tedious process of reactivating my many passwords.

Maybe @DavidR could advise as he uses the free version.

Unfortunately not, I have never used the Avast Password manager.
Mainly as I use Firefox and it has built in password functionality - the beauty of that is I regularly synch my settings there, that saves lots of things over and above passwords. If I install Firefox on another system I can pull down those saved settings/passwords, etc.

Thanks David.
Ive never used a brouser to store passwords as in the event im guessing they maybe more easy to get hacked than some password managers, except for reading about one pass the other day, oopps. ive used avast passwords and nord vault for quite a while but find avast easier to manouver. But thats interesting to know so i will look into sync firefox, thanks.
problem is ive always bought a one or two year licence for one pc but thanks to the windows 11 fiasco i bought a new gaming laptop a few months ago but hardly touched it yet. so avast wants around £70 for new 1 pc for 1 year licence. last year i bought a key and got 1 year for £12 ive now found a key for 10 devices for 2 years for under £20 and luckily last year avast priced matched it but on the new pc im guessing as its a new install i wont have passwords anymore so will have to rely on nord. oh the fun of getting old and updating technology.
