I have just updated to the latest AVAST home (free) and the Passwords application was installed by default. This application was allowed to integrate into FireFox and it successfully took over the job of storing and inserting my passwords into site I log onto (newegg.com etc…).
The issue is that when enabled - FireFox slows to a crawl and crashes to the desktop. This is not a “out of memory” error, according to FireFox trouble shooting it is caused by the Passwords application. They indicated I should contact AVAST to see why it (passwords) was causing the browser to hang / slow / crash.
Running FireFox without add on applications (safe mode) works as it should, and the instant I enable Passwords it slows, hangs then crashes.
Operating System - Windows 10 Professional
CPU - i7 Quad at 3.0ghz HT enabled
8gb of DDR3
1.5tb HDD (78% free space)
Radeon R7 280 dedicated card
System snapshot at time of crash:
CPU 15%
Memory 41% (3.3gb used)
Disk 5%
Ethernet 3%
System is connected via 1000baseT switch, on FiOS with 50/50 plan. At time of crash network was up and 100% operational with less than 20% utilization. Ping to local sites was under 25ms at top use, google and yahoo less than 15ms average.
As you can see I have been working to figure out what is causing the crashes and poor performance on FireFox for a few days now, using Linux to snoop the LAN for issues and also diagnose connection to the WAN port.
Everything seems to be pointing to the Passwords application, running on FireFox as sole password manager. Can someone tell me if this is a known bug with a fix in the works?
Thanks in advance!
