AGAIN i find myself having major problems with outlook 2007 and Avast Plugin. Now its so bad i cant even open up outlook because it just causes it not to respond and crashes out, then when i try and restart i get asked do i wish to disable the Avast Plugin.
Im using the latest version of Avast 4.8, fully updated, i have reinstalled both Avast and Office 2007 and NOTHING is working, this has been happening on and off for months since 4.7 and its getting beyond a joke now!.
Indeed not mine… I’m an user like you, as you may know…
Any antivirus could interact with any firewall… It’s not a matter with avast only.
But other user with more knowledge then me has start a conversation with me as bellow:
But I cannot see any way the avast plugin for Outlook can be affected by the firewall.
Really? Won't the firewall filter the communication anyway?
I think there will be interaction at least at driver level.
The whole point of the Outlook plugin is that it is totally separated from the network communication which it entirely done by Outlook itself.
But Outlook can't 'bypass' the firewall action, can it?
I only have Outlook 2003 to test with and I cannot see the problem with that but there are too many reports of Outlook plugin problems recently for me to doubt there is some basis for these problems.
I think so... something seems strange with Outlook plugin for sure.
Starts to collect mail, hangs and stops responding.
Restart Outlook2000 and your inbox has populated with new mail. Now it seems to be OK unitl you check for new mail again.
Hangs and stops responding. Tried checking all the troubleshooting features and reboot. Problem still there. Uninstall Avast 4.8 and problem goes away.
To create the dump, download and run http://public.avast.com/~vlk/hangrep.exe . In the list of processes select outlook.exe and use the Save button. This generates a file which you can either send to his email address vlk (at) avast.com (if it’s smaller than e.g. 1 MB, ZIPed), or upload to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming
The command-line version http://public.avast.com/~vlk/userdump.exe . The syntax is userdump.exe outlook.exe c:\outlook.dmp
(producing dump file in the root of C:\ drive)
Please note that prior to taking it, you’ll have to temporarily disable avast self defense - otherwise, the program responsible for creation of the dump won’t be able to open the process.
its pointless going back to 4.7, ive been reading peoples reports that claim this problem dates back as far as 4.6 so why hasnt it been sorted?
At the end of the day we buy these products to help protect us and when u have to disable the plugin to even get into read ur emails its kind of useless.
I’m using 4.8.1201 and Outlook 2007. It’s working fine to me… so, maybe, it’s not a reproducible problem in their computers. The dumps are they way to help troubleshooting and improving the program.
